Why use Floppy to USB Emulators in place of Traditional Floppy Disk Drives

how to recover documents on a floppy disk that says it needs formatting?
i have a floppy disk an i saved a document to it last night. today i try to open it an the computer says it needs formatting. I really need to get the documents off this disk.
