Reasons for Laptop Battery reduce backup Time?
Laptops have become an essential part of our daily lives as they are easy to carry from one place to another. As well, we can also work on it approx. 2-3 hours without charging even if the light is turned off. When we purchase a brand new laptop, the battery of laptop works very good approximately 2-3 hours after charging. But after using 6 to 12 months, what happens? It comes to 30 minutes merely. Many of laptop companies claim that their laptops can have 4 to 6 hours of battery life. But actually, backup time totally depends upon your usage of laptop, usage of USB based gadgets on laptops. There are some valuable tips for you on how can you increase your laptop battery life.
Reasons of reducing battery backup:
Sometimes the charging of the charger may not be correct. May be it is faster or slow. We can check it.
1. If your battery does not charge in 1 or 2 hours, then please Check whether your battery is over heat or not.
2. If your laptop battery becomes too hot that can not be touched by you, then you should need to remove the battery immediately and allow it to cool off. If it repeats regularly then your battery or charger may be defective.
3. Usually we ignore this battery overheat problem, but that is the main reason that battery backup suddenly reduce in 30 or 20 minutes.
4. Overcharging: Over charging occurs when the charger keeps the battery at a temperature that is warm to touch (body temperature) while in ready condition.
Now a days, most of the batteries come equipped with Li-Ion battery. These batteries have built-in controller chips which can prevent from overcharging, as they can explode if overcharged. Overcharging does not affect the life span other than potentially destroying the battery.
A Lithium-ion battery may be damaged by extensive overcharging (continuously on a charger for more than 24 hours). Damage to the battery from overcharging would only occur in the very unlikely event of a malfunction of the charging system.
Still we should not connect charge with laptop more than 2 Hours. When laptop battery shows full, then you should remove the charger immediately for better battery performance.
How to increase Laptop Battery Life?
Some Points should be remember to better battery backup and performance:-
1. Low your Laptop's Brightness
Many laptops allow you to reduce the brightness of laptop. To dim the screen brightness, click on the battery icon right hand side in the system tray and after that, click on "Adjust screen brightness." But lowering the brightness of the screen, you can save your laptop battery.
2. Defragment Your System Regularly
If you're using Windows 7, Vista or XP operating system, then these systems have built in defragmenter in the control panel. This feature of OS is very helpful in improving the efficiency of the hard drive. So if you do regularly defragmentation, it will help hard drive to arrange data with efficiency. As the result, your laptop's hard drive will have to do less work for accessing the data.
3. Turn off the Screensaver
If you really want to maximize your system's battery life, you should switch off the screensaver as soon as possible. In real, screensavers use CPU (Central Processing Unit) when you're not using it.
5. Switch off Wireless and Bluetooth
Turn on wireless and Bluetooth unnecessarily may drain the battery of your laptop. So if you disable these hard wares, they may save the power of your battery.
4. Remove the battery for an Extended Time Period
When your laptop is not in use for an extended period of time it is best to remove the battery. The battery will continue to slowly discharge during the time it is not in use. If this discharge takes place inside the laptop you may not be able to get your laptop to recognize the battery the next time it is recharged.
5. Unplug USB Devices
As we know that USB devices like Wi-Fi, PC cards, External mouse, external speakers, Bluetooth etc. are the biggest drainers of laptop battery power. So an individual should unplug them all when they are not in use.
6. Keep Empty your DVD or CD drive when no uses.
7. Hibernate is better than sleep mode, because I sleep mode memory remains active, but in hibernate mode computer save current page or state.
8. Increase Your Laptop's RAM
By increasing laptop's RAM, you can reduce the load of Virtual memory residing on the hard disk. By doing so, you not only increase the life of battery, you will find your laptop run more smoothly. However, an extra bit of RAM uses more power, but it will increase the overall savings by short cutting access to give power hungry hard disk drive.
Above and beyond, keep clean your laptop's battery with a cloth moistened by rubbing alcohol. It will keep the transfer of battery's power more efficiently. Use hibernate function instead of using standby mode. Close all unnecessary programs by right clicking on the program and select close. Otherwise, you can press "CTRL+ALT+DEL" and then end up unnecessary tasks. Hope these tips will help you to increase your laptop battery.

What would you suspect to be the problem if a laptop works when the motherboard is flexed?
And how, if possible, would you go about fixing it? I was thinking about just trying to wedge a piece of something on a corner and putting it back together. Probably a temp fix but what materials would be suitable for this task?
It could be a short with metal in the casing (depending on the make and model, like a Dell) when the motherboard is sitting in the casing... where flexing it breaks that contact.
It could be a power adapter port that is damaged... either at the solder points on the motherboard, or within the DC jack itself, where flexing the MB has the effect of making the contact.
It could be that the processor needs to be reseated.
It could be that the heat sink assembly needs to be remounted, as it isn't making proper contact with the processor or putting the proper pressure on the processor.
It could be any one of a thousand damaged solder points or copper traces on the board.
I would re-examine the casing... closely. You say it works when you flex the board... examine where it flexes with a magnifying glass. If it is something that can be re-soldered, then there is your answer.
