HTC have delivered another wonderful piece in the form of the HTC HD Mini
HTC have delivered another wonderful piece in the form of the HTC HD Mini. The Windows Mobile device is of compact design, but packs a real punch. Sporting HTC Sense and boasting a 600MHz processor the phone runs very quickly and the interface you are working with looks very pretty. HTC have packed the phone with vast online capabilities, a 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen and a fully loaded digital camera system. HTC have gone out of there way to contend in the compact smartphone market and the HD Mini has the good looks, pocket-ability and gutsy software package to put up a fight.
The measurements of the phone are 103.8 x 57.7 x 11.7mm and it weighs 110g with the battery. The device is very streamline, and looks incredibly distinguished with its industrialized back casing contrasting with its shiny facia. The touch screen on the HD Mini is brilliant; it is loaded with a built-in accelerometer for auto rotation and boasts capacitive technology allowing for multi touch control. The specially designed rubberized casing makes the phone hard to drop and comfortable to handle. HTC have designed the interface to work seamlessly with the apps provided by the Windows Marketplace. HTC Sense does a grand job of covering for the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS, the operating system can be a little awkward at times but HTC's in-house overlay paints a pretty picture over the cracks. The home screen provided is typical of HTC; it is dominated by a large flip page clock which has an integrated weather monitor providing daily forecasts. The home screen also has a toolbar which can be set up with shortcuts to your favourite or most needed applications.
The HTC HD Mini is equipped with plenty of support for social networking. HTC Peep is a dedicated Twitter client, while sites like Facebook and MySpace can be managed too. The People widget sends you to a contacts section where your favourite contacts can be accessed direct. HTC have thrown in a number of options where messaging is concerned, not only do you get support for SMS/MMS services but e-mail and instant messaging is also covered. The e-mail client is pretty cool, you can set up mobile accounts with a variety of providers including Gmail and Hotmail and your inbox displays e-mails in order of arrival as pages which can be flicked through. The IM section supports all the popular providers like WindowsLive and GoogleTalk and supplies users with an alternative form of communication via live chat. The Opera browser has been used on the HD Mini, it has support for multi touch and delivers an all round experience where speed and performance are concerned. The secondary browser Internet Explorer will supply users with Flash compatibility which is great for media heavy sites, but it does lack multi touch functionality. The phone is well supported for online activities, it utilises both 3G and Wi Fi for high speed connections. HTC have pre-installed a bunch of navigational tools for users to play with, a built-in GPS and HTC Footprints application provide ample support for the travel conscious.
Although the camera on the HD Mini is not perfect it does come well equipped with both flash and auto focus. The picture quality is of a reasonable standard while video capture is managed at 30fps in 640 x 480 pixel resolution. Video playback looks brilliant on the HVGA display and the music player has an awesome interface with support for album art, and music filters for quick access. The phones memory can be expanded via the microSD slot and a 3.5mm audio jack can be found for headphones.
All in all the HTC HD Mini is a well rounded 3G device with superb media support and loads of communication options. You get everything you could ask for from a smartphone in a compact form factor. The HTC HD Mini is a desirable phone as it looks gorgeous and performs to a high standard.

I am trying to build a cheap computer, using a Dell Optiplex GX50 case. It has the small form factor, which I guess is no longer popular.
