is it straight forward task installing windows 7 64 bit onto me vista 32 computer? l realise l will lose all in me hard disk, so backed up on dvdrw, is it just click next next next, finish?

You have to find out if your processor will support 64 bit - you have 32 bit Vista so it is not obvious. Right click on computer and bring up properties - it will tell you there.
You can tell if it is genuine by looking at computer properties after it is installed. But, seriously, you should be asking the shop that first.
Format is not absolutely required but since nothing you are running right now will be accessible once the 64 bit is installed it is a good option. Means the install will be on an optimized drive.
